The route along the DEK is really good to cycle on. A few years ago, the original route along the Dortmund Ems Canal in the Lingen area was still on gravel roads that were called cycle paths. Fortunately, those days are over and people have learned to create new paths for cyclists 🚴‍♀️ 🚴‍♂️ that are as good as those for car drivers. But it's worth leaving the canal every now and then.

Very nice railway cycle path to Rheine. The best thing is, at least in this community: cycling has priority.

As early as 1978 it was decided to convert the section between Ochtrup and Wettringen into a cycle path. In the 1990s, the measure was completed along the entire route, albeit mostly with a water-bound surface. The section from Rheine to Wettringen has been completely asphalted since 2017. The crossing-free stretch from the former train station in Neuenkirchen to Offlumer See is equipped with lights.

The bike path to the right of the B70 is really nice to ride because it runs absolutely straight without any uphill or downhill gradients. You drive along between green avenues and enjoy nature to the fullest. Anyone who would like to make a stop at Lake Offlum near Neuenkirchen to treat themselves to a cup of coffee and a piece of cake can also enjoy a wonderful piece of nature with a view of the lake. On warm days in summer you can even swim there.

Tip-top route and almost always water in view

This is a great route, surrounded by greenery and well protected from the wind.
