In the farming community of Gleesen, the Dortmund-Ems Canal and shortly afterwards the "Große Aa" as a right tributary flow into the Ems and form a common waterway. In Hanekenfähr, the Dortmund-Ems Canal and the Ems then separate again. Immediately at the confluence with the Ems is the newly built Gleesen lock on the Dortmund-Ems Canal. Before the "Große Aa" flows into the Ems, it is spanned by a newly constructed pedestrian and bicycle bridge.

On the route from Gleesen towards Salzbergen you come along the Ems at this point, you can step onto the footbridge and almost have the feeling of standing on the Ems

The Ems is nicer to sail than the Dortmund-Ems Canal. There is more variety here.
