December 2025: All the bridges are gone! It had been apparent throughout the year: paths were no longer being maintained and the bridges were severely neglected. Now the forestry authority has dismantled all the bridges in the Steinkampsholz forest. Nature conservation, forester-style.

The Herrenteich Pond is located in the heart of the carp town of Reinfeld. It was artificially created in the 12th century by Cistercian monks as a reservoir for the Heilsau River for fish farming. Carp are still bred here today. A four-kilometer circular trail around the Lower Herrenteich invites you to discover this special ecosystem. 16 stations along the adventure trail offer fun and a nature experience in one, sharpening your awareness of the special features of this natural area. The Herrenteich in Reinfeld is a popular tourist destination. The approximately 55-hectare body of water is divided into the upper and lower Herrenteich. The upper Herrenteich remains a recognized nature reserve. The lower Herrenteich is home to, among other things, a hiking trail and an outdoor pool in the summer. Due to melting snow, the Herrenteich flooded in early March 2010. A temporary dam erected at the time due to construction work threatened to no longer hold the water masses. A breach of the dam would have flooded the entire hinterland. The Hamburg/Lübeck railway embankment would also have been affected. The existence of cycle paths is of course always to be welcomed, especially when they are in such a pristine condition (as far as I can tell from the short sections that are necessary to cross the road) 👍 When things have to go quickly, mountain bikers are also happy. But a finely asphalted cycle path is definitely not a MTB-specific highlight! There are so many more species-appropriate alternatives! In the south along the Trave, in the north through the forests (which is also shown in the numerous photos that have been added here incorrectly).

The interesting part is now overgrown with branches from numerous small beech trees on both sides. From above, the path is no longer visible under the leaves and snow, but from below it is still visible. However, the ascent is not particularly attractive and the beech trees punish you with whiplashes - and that even in winter...

Unfortunately, there are already 4 trees lying across the path on the section between the bridge and the exit. Driving around or over them is almost impossible. The forestry authority has declared the forest section a natural forest. This means that, under the guise of nature conservation, the obligation to keep the paths clear has been waived as long as they are not needed for logging.

A very beautiful Karl Mai mosaic is located in front of the main entrance to the Karl Mai Festival in Bad Segeberg.

Only a few people would know Bad Segeberg without Karl May. Beautiful little town. 🥾🥾

Renewed bridge. Even though it was annoying when it was closed (but the new construction was really quick back then!👍🏻), the real highlight is the path through the Christinental that follows behind the bridge! (Hills and roots https://www.komoot.de/highlight/187404 )
