These are old peat pits. Peat was once extracted here as fuel.

The Ribnitz Great Moor is a rain-fed bog, meaning it is fed solely by precipitation, which is "held" by the moss. The moss grows as a result, arches upwards, forms peat, and grows... if it is not drained. Here, too, peat was dug, and the bog was drained. Today, a worthwhile excursion trail leads through it, with information boards and benches.

This rest area is located in a particularly beautiful area. You can take a break here and enjoy nature. You'll often find yourself alone there.
