The Exterseine are always worth a visit. The high rock formation can also be climbed. There are stairs leading up.

The Externsteine are worth a visit at any time of the year. They were my playground 40 years ago, less than 15 minutes from home. In winter we could go ice skating here and in summer we built tippis in the forest and looked for fire salamanders

The impressive 40m high rock formation is one of the most remarkable natural and cultural monuments in Central Europe. From various places, such as here from the hiking cross, there is always a very beautiful view of the mystical rocks.

The pictures are from 2019 or older. Now in 2022, the valley resembles a disaster landscape. Storms and bark beetles have done a great job. The destruction is speechless. The paths are walkable and it still has its charm, but the markings are missing in some places. Good shoes and a hat in strong sun are recommended, as the sun beats down mercilessly without the canopy of the trees.
