Dark history of Ibb-Bocketal: Walled-up tunnels of the so-called underground Ziolith relocation from 1944-1945. The tunnels were driven into the rock by forced laborers in order to operate an underground hydrogenation plant. At the end of the war, gasoline was actually still hydrogenated here. Whether from coal or oil has not been definitively determined. The plant was part of the so-called Geilenberg program, an SS program from Ibbenbüren, which made several tens of thousands of forced laborers toil to their deaths in the procurement of fuel.
