Tranekaer Castle Park is very beautiful. Hidden within it are about 20 works of art that are exposed to transience. That's intentional.

Tranekær Castle is the oldest inhabited house in Denmark and stands out from the beautiful landscape with its location and its beautiful red color. Originally built as a heavily fortified castle with a moat and drawbridge, the castle enjoys an extremely favorable location. Isolated and built on a 20-meter-high shore, it used to be possible to sail from both the east and west sides of Langeland to the foot of the castle. When traveling on Langeland, one had to pass by the castle. The castle is located on one of the island's many "hat hills." In this way, the site offered the castle's inhabitants considerable protection from the very beginning. With the construction of moats and a ring wall, the castle became a virtually impregnable fortress over time. Tranekær Castle is inhabited by the Ahlefeldt-Laurvig family and is now a modern agricultural and forestry business with an area of 1,733 hectares. The main building and the castle grounds are not open to the public, but outside the moats, you can stroll along a beautiful path, where you can see unique trees in the park, including the rare Chinese conifer, the water fir. Tranekær Church is located on the southwestern outskirts of the town. It was built in 1450 in the Gothic style and significantly altered in 1804 by Frederik Ahlefeldt-Laurvig, owner of Tranekær Castle. A further reconstruction took place in 1886. The burial chapel and the vault below contain several sarcophagi and coffins belonging to the Ahlefeldt family from the 17th to 19th centuries. The church is open daily except Sundays during the summer months.
