Faaborg Historic Center – Experience History Faaborg's historic center is a living, open-air history book. With its winding streets, the Torvet market square, and the iconic Klokketårn – a freestanding bell tower dating back to the late 15th century – it tells the story of medieval urban development and religious change. The tower, once part of St. Nicholas' Church, now offers sweeping views over the town and the South Funen Archipelago. The recommended circular trails through the center are particularly charming: for example, the route from Faaborg Museum to the market square or the longer hike to the top of Lerbjerg. These tours harmoniously combine culture, architecture, and nature, making Faaborg an ideal destination for explorers with a sense of history.

Faaborg's Old Town – A Stroll Through History Faaborg's Old Town is a true gem of Southern Denmark – charming, vibrant, and brimming with historical details. Cobblestone streets, colorful facades, and winding alleyways tell tales of centuries of urban development. Particularly impressive is the freestanding Klokketårn, a bell tower dating back to the late 15th century, which once belonged to St. Nicholas Church and now stands as a landmark overlooking the town. Walks through the Old Town lead past old merchants' houses, the Torvet market square, and the Faaborg Museum. From here, you can also glimpse the surrounding islands such as Bjørnø, Avernakø, and Lyø – a panorama that blends history and nature. The Old Town is not only a place to linger but also an ideal starting point for hikes and cultural explorations.

The harbor bath in Faaborg is a true gem located right on the water – a modern, open-air bathing facility that blends perfectly into the maritime surroundings and offers refreshment with a magnificent view. With spacious wooden decks, plenty of space for sunbathing, and an unobstructed view over the Archipelago, it offers not only relaxation but also a visual experience. The bath is especially popular for a quick dip overlooking the old town – a place where nature and the city meet harmoniously. The facility is equipped with showers and restrooms and is ideal for a spontaneous cool-off after a hike or a stroll through the city. Whether sunbathing, splashing around, or simply enjoying the view – the harbor bath is a place that exudes a summer mood and underlines Faaborg's charm.

The sculpture was originally made of sandstone, and the original is now housed in the Faaborg Museum. The version we see in Faaborg Square is a bronze copy, erected in 1964. The story behind the sculpture is based on legends and myths about the "creation of the world"... Made by sculptor Kai Nielsen. Donated by State Councilor Mads Rasmussen. The artwork was created and installed by the artist Ole Hempel (1944-2007) in 1996. The Whale Tail came to Faaborg in connection with the opening of the harbor baths in May 2014. Tommy "Topsvejs" Hansen and Benny "Boomsterk" Rasmussen ensured that it was placed decoratively near the harbor baths in the middle of the night. In a short time, the townspeople adopted the Whale Tail and recognized it as one of the city's landmarks. Just as suddenly as it had appeared, it disappeared in September 2019. "The Real Faaborg" and the municipality of Faaborg-Midtfyn have since worked together to bring the Whale Tail back to the city and on April 3, 2020, the Whale Tail was lowered back into the water in its usual location.
