A safe bathing experience On Østerstrand you will find the Mermaid Pipes bathing facility, the world's first bathing facility for people with visual impairments. This facility was created as a collaboration between the municipality of Fredericia and the Danish Blind Association, and was originally intended for people with visual impairments and blind people. The facility can, however, be used by anyone who wants to bathe in an extra safe way. The design of the facility The so-called Mermaid Pipes are a series of long steel poles that form a snail pattern above and below the water. A rope is attached between each steel pole, which guides bathers safely through the water and back to the beach. The Mermaid Pipes therefore provide orientation in the water and enable people with visual impairments to experience the sea and bathing in a safe way.

The Fredericia ramparts have six openings connecting Fredericia city centre with the catchment area, but only three of them have real gates: Danmarks Port, Prinsens Port and Nørre Port. In the north-eastern corner of the ramparts is Kongens Port.

With only one berth for cruise ships, the cruise terminal in the old harbor of Fredericia is one of the smaller cruise terminals in Denmark. From the 350 m long quay you can quickly and easily walk to the center of the characteristic Danish city. Fredericia is only 500 m from the harbor. Thanks to its central location, you can reach the city of Odense, the famous Legoland and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Christiansfeld, for example.

In front of Denmark's Bastion lies the fortress's best-preserved ravelin. Ravelins were built in front of the city gates to protect this weak point from attack and to camouflage the gate so that an enemy coming from outside would have difficulty entering the city. The monument to Colonel Niels Christian Lunding was made by the sculptor Andreas Paulsen. Lunding deserves credit for this monument because he made the entire fortress ready for battle in just three months in 1849. This achievement must be appreciated in light of the fact that the fortifications had not been maintained for more than 100 years. It was the same Lunding who was given the task in 1863 of preparing the rampart for battle before the Second Schleswig War in 1864, when the fortress was besieged for the last time.
