Since the redesign of the medieval town center, the Media Tower, which stands on the site of the old town hall, has formed the centerpiece of the square. At 12.27 meters high, the tower symbolizes the first documented mention of the town of Bischofswerda in 1227. City fortifications from the late 13th century. The Fronfeste, or gate tower of the former Dresden Gate, probably dates back to the 14th century. The Fronfeste acquired its present appearance after the city fire of 1813.
