Dabel was first mentioned in 1272. The center of the village is the church, dating from the early 15th century, a flat-roofed fieldstone hall with a tower of equal width. In 1296—the date of the first recorded mention—Nicholas II of Werle sold Below and other villages around Sternberg to the Cistercians of Neuenkamp in Pomerania. A huge brick Gothic building that dominates the entire city center, especially when you consider that the cathedral is already the only church of this size in the city! (The tower roof was added later.) A magnificent, very detailed altar (in times without TV and electronic media, it must have been like watching TV!), finely crafted Gothic figures above (next to Christ on the cross), a beautifully painted spiral staircase to the gallery and a few Art Nouveau wall designs are very pleasing.

In 1871, the well-known architect Martin Haller (who built the Hamburg town hall, among other things) built the manor house in the classical style for Johannes Hillmann. It was the center of a fairly large estate (513 hectares). After the fall of the Berlin Wall, it was a hotel for a few years; it is now privately owned.
