Ancient oaks, beeches, and other trees can be seen on the paths surrounding the lake. This is a rare sight.

The terminal moraine of the Ice Age has found its place here in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and some stones still remind us of it.

The town hall is the central representative building in the historic center of the island town and was built between 1818 and 1821. It is a two-story half-timbered building in the neoclassical style with a striking mansard roof and a central balcony. The gray paint of the timber framing gives the building a solid appearance. Together with the neighboring former district court, built in 1881, it forms the town's administrative center. Both buildings are connected by a modern glass walkway. The attic of the town hall contains preserved detention cells that were used until the 1950s. The building reflects the town's history and is one of the region's architectural highlights. Thus, the town hall is not only an administrative building, but also a testament to Malchow's eventful history and an architectural highlight for visitors to the Mecklenburg Lake District.

The village shop "für dit & dat" (for this & that) in Alt Schwerin is an ideal place for a rest during a bike tour through the Mecklenburg Lake District. Since 2017, Andrea Fabich-Albrecht and her team have been running a charming farm café with a village shop feel in the premises of a former school. Here, you'll find homemade cakes, tarts, and hearty dishes made from regional ingredients—perfect for an enjoyable break. In addition to its culinary offerings, the shop also hosts cultural events such as barbecues with live music, wine festivals, and fashion shows. It is open Mondays and Thursdays through Sundays, mornings and afternoons, and also on Wednesdays in the summer. For cyclists passing through, this place not only offers refreshments, but also a particularly warm, rural atmosphere in the heart of the village of Alt Schwerin.
