One of the few advantages of quarries... ;)

Here, you'll find the remains of the former elevator for the quarried stone from the Kirchbruch (church quarry), two five-meter-high reinforced concrete columns. In 1988, the idea arose to use these columns to display the stone used in the former GDR. Graphic designer Gerd Nawrot and the geologists from "Elbnaturstein Dresden" advised on the implementation. The surrounding area was designed by the municipality. The 1984 Stone Workers' Monument stands on August-Bebel-Straße. Figurative representations were deliberately omitted to emphasize the stonemason, not the sculptor. For the construction of the Battle of the Nations Monument from 1911 to 1913, approximately 80 percent of the stone for the exterior and interior cladding of the concrete structure came from the "Sorge" quarry; the origin of the remaining 20 percent is still unknown. During the construction of the monument and the manufacture of its monumental figures, granite porphyry became known as Beucha stone.
