This is the former train station building in Obererbach. Today, it's privately owned and a listed building—a pleasant sight and a reminder of times gone by. Fortunately, the train station still exists, but the building is no longer accessible to rail passengers. Instead, a covered "station" is located nearby.

Even though the religious community that used to be based here left the Marienthal monastery a decade ago, the pilgrimage church was open when I visited today and was visited by some people for silent Eucharistic adoration. Next to the church there is a statue of the Sacred Heart and behind it a Lourdes grotto has been built.

The house is in an idyllic location, with great hiking opportunities in unspoilt nature. The Westerwaldsteig leads directly past the house. The Au (Sieg) train station was opened in 1860 on the Deutz-Gießener railway, which is now part of the Sieg line. In 1887, the Oberwesterwald railway also went into operation, providing a connection to Limburg (Lahn). As the last station on the Sieg line in North Rhine-Westphalia, Au (Sieg) is important, for example, as the terminus of two S-Bahn lines and for local transport fares. In 2015, a tenant was secured for the house, who ran the Marienthal monastery restaurant there from May 2016 until it had to be closed on October 31, 2022 due to sharp price increases for energy and goods.
