Melendugno Castle dates back to the 1500s and is the symbol of the feudal society which, under the D'Amely family, resisted until the end of the Second World War. It is located in the center of the town but it is not possible to visit the inside.

On a door inside the atrium of the castle we can admire the coat of arms of the Spinola family, which came into possession of Borgagne in 1616. In the north-east corner, the one with the better preserved curtain than that of the main facade, incorporates partially, a pre-existing tower built in 1498, the year is derived from the inscription present under the noble coat of arms of the Petraroli, from which it takes its name. The Petraroli Castle is the identity symbol of the entire Borgagne community and an architectural element rich in history. [Source: FAI]

The sculpture, completed in 1781, is dedicated to Saint Anne, protector of Vernole. Made entirely of Lecce stone, it is composed of an octagonal base enriched by the statues of San Giuseppe Patriarca, San Paolo, Sant’Oronzo and Santa Irene. On the top is the statue of Sant’Anna, looking towards the church of the same name.

This tower of about 12 m with a particular four-pointed star plant, takes its name from the last feudal family that owned it. Also known as "Castello di Melendugno", its original construction dates back to the mid-16th century and was commissioned by Pompeo Paladini, seventh baron of Melendugno and Lizzanello, who commissioned it to the military engineer Gian Giacomo di Acaya.
