Beautiful square of Melpignano

In the center of Melpignano, Piazza San Giorgio is named after the patron saint of the city. The mother church of the same name overlooks it and has a portico that is quite rare in Puglia. It is one of the places where the famous popular music event called "Notte della Taranta" takes place.

The monolith is embedded in the perimeter wall of an industrial plant. Its tip has a pyramidal shape, unfortunately not visible due to the heavy presence of weeds. Height: 3.10 meters

The square is located in the city center and is dedicated to Francesca Capece, the last feudal lord of Maglie who donated all her possessions to the city on the death of her husband Antonio Lopez y Royo.

The Poetry Park of Sogliano Cavour is a natural park that extends over 20 hectares of land, in one of the most beautiful pine forests in Salento, full of exploration trails with indications and captions on the flora and fauna species typical of the area.

The Poetry Park is surrounded by cultivated fields and pastures. Inside, there are numerous paths and stands with lecterns containing excerpts of poems by famous authors that accompany the visitor on this journey through nature. There are also wooden houses containing books by poets, made available to anyone.
