Enchanting place

The Canovian Temple is the most famous architectural work by Antonio Canova, the undisputed genius of Neoclassicism and a native of Possagno. Built on a sunny hill, at the foot of Col Draga and near the San Rocco valley, about 330 meters above sea level, in front of the artist's birthplace, it can be seen from afar for those arriving from the east (Pederobba), from the south (Vallorgana) and from the west (Fietta).

Crossroads of ancient paths that descended from Val Cavasia to the plain. Clay area to avoid after heavy rains, place of worship so respect the silence.

It's very easy to drive past.

Cima della Mandria, in the Monte Grappa massif, offers a spectacular panoramic view that extends from the plain to Venice and, on clear days, to the Apennines. To the north, you can admire the Dolomites. Accessible by car or on foot all year round, the peak is home to a small church and several mountain huts where you can enjoy local specialties.

Native of Possagno, Antonio Canova decided to renovate the old parish church at the urging of his fellow villagers: on 11 July 1818 the first stone of what would become one of his greatest works was laid. (Canova, however, did not have time to see the completed Temple: he died eight years before the end of the works, in 1822).

The little road that goes up with the mountains in the background is a wonderful image. In any case, following it you will arrive at the miet tavern, instead of taking the asphalt road.
