From the massive bridge there is a beautiful view of the dammed-up Schwarze Au river.

The current artists' residence was built in 1889; it was designed by the renowned Hamburg architect Martin Haller. Roger Willemsen acquired it in the summer of 2015 and saw it as an ideal place for inspired and creative work. The house has been a listed building since 2019. The idea of preserving the villa as an artists' residence in his name arose among friends just days before Roger Willemsen's death. Roger Willemsen was deeply moved by the initiative and gave his consent. His friend Nikolaus Gelpke, with the mareverlag publishing house, made the project possible by establishing the Roger Willemsen Foundation. Light-filled work and living areas, an event space, as well as Roger Willemsen's personal library, his music collection, and the preserved furnishings make the artists' residence a special place. Heartfelt thanks are extended to the heirs for their loans. The Roger Willemsen Foundation maintains and preserves the artists' residence as a place of inspiration, creative work, and cultural exchange. In keeping with the spirit of its namesake, the foundation supports exceptional talents and bold artistic projects. These two trees are intertwined in an unusual way. Since they are two different tree species, this is quite special.

To the left and right of the path it is partly better, for me still a nice trail ... at least for the MTB 😉

The Billetal nature reserve is located on the western edge of the Sachsenwald forest. Numerous, truly idyllic hiking trails meander along the river, which is cool even in summer. The Bille provides a habitat for brown trout and grayling. Surrounded by alluvial forests, wet meadows and tall herbaceous meadows, the area is home to numerous plant and animal species. The old beech forests along the valley slopes are particularly beautiful.

The path is becoming increasingly neglected - what a pity... Muddy in many places - trees are lying on the path and are not being cleared away.
