The mosaic floor of Monreale Cathedral is part of the breathtaking Byzantine masterpiece that covers the church walls. The floor in the choir (sanctuary) is particularly magnificent, composed of thick marble slabs and precious mosaic tiles (marble, glass paste, gold) with geometric patterns. Completed in the 16th century, it shows a strong influence of the Arabic style, as do the wall mosaics depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments, forming the largest unified Byzantine mosaic cycle.
