The Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Alto, located at 1,819 meters on Monte Alto, is one of the highest Marian shrines in Italy and offers a sweeping view of Sicily. On clear days, it is said that from here you can see much of the island, all the way to Mount Etna, and sometimes even the sea.

Fresh water all year round

Surreal. The path to reach it, both from the valley and from the mountain, is entirely covered with rocks and is not easy to follow. If your goal is Pizzo Carbonara, prefer the main path of the meadows.

Easy climb but exposed to the sun with little shelter in the small hazelnut groves. The view from the top is worth the sweat, it is best to start early in the morning.

The hiking trail is very beautiful and also suitable for children. There are plenty of shade spots and great views.

What a fantastic view from up here! (360°). A wooden sign marks the summit (Sicily's second highest!). The path is steep on all sides but always easy to walk, never really exposed; only loose rocks could pose a problem. The area was apparently quite busy in the past (ski lifts, etc.), but nature is slowly reclaiming the infrastructure...great beech "groves"!

Excursion to the Princess's Pit, starting from the Battaglia tra direction Zottafonda, climb up to the Pit where it is possible to find snow until late June.
