The Kyll River near Gerolstein is a true natural gem and an ideal companion for Komoot adventures – whether by bike, on foot, or in the water. The river originates in the Eifel region near the Belgian border and meanders leisurely south for a total of around 127 km into the Moselle near Trier. It makes a striking loop along Gerolstein, flanked by the impressive dolomite cliffs of the Gerolsteiner Kalkmulde. For cyclists, the Kyll Valley Cycle Path is ideal: almost entirely paved for around 123 km from Losheimergraben to Trier-Ehrang. The section through Gerolstein is gently hilly, scenically beautiful, and family-friendly, with sections that run parallel to the railway, thus reducing the uphill stretches. Water enthusiasts will enjoy paddling and fishing. Several operators in and around Gerolstein offer canoe tours – for example, on comfortable double kayaks. The Kyll is also a paradise for fly fishermen: trout, grayling, barbel, pike, and whitefish abound in the river; a day ticket costs about €18.
