The highlight is the seating area with a 270° panorama over the largest of the moor ponds.

There is a beautifully grown oak tree next to a pond in the moor. The lower state authority classifies it as a natural monument. That's why the oak has a plaque.

The bog has two entrances to the south. If you use the western of the two paths, then you have to scramble over these tree roots.

These fallen trees have been an obstacle to climb here for years. As far as I can remember, there were various Komoot highlights at this point! These root systems are extremely distinctive. Apparently these highlights have been removed?

The 'Stodthagen Natural Forest and Adjacent Raised Moors' nature reserve was established in 1942 and protects the remains of a raised bog, much of which has been drained or converted into grassland. The dams you walk on are traces of this former use. In the east of the nature reserve is a moor lake of almost 1 hectare, created by peat extraction. To prevent further drainage of the bog, individual ditches were sealed, creating numerous pools in the forest, which you can see directly on the Komoot map. Of the vegetation typical of raised bogs, heather and cotton grass are particularly enchanting. The nature reserve is closely connected to the Stodthagen Forest to the south. The bog drains via ditches to the Mühlenau, which flows into the Fuhlensee near Schilksee, which you may recognize from ice skating in winter.

Tip: Good shoes recommended and pay attention to the path. So you can sometimes watch the grass snakes.
