A really nice place for a short break, in summer also good for a quick cool down 🏊

Great view, great to take a break

After the bridge (middle of Alter Kirchweg), the north-south section of the path was overgrown at the end of August 2025, making cycling largely impossible (see photos). There were thorns in one spot. Once the undergrowth is trimmed back, everything will be fine again. Nice MTB trail.

Parallel to the developed supply road, a hidden forest singletrack trail runs along the shore of Lake Flemhude. The rooty and winding trail is easily accessible even in summer. It has several dog bathing areas and ends at the bathing area where the lake meets the Kiel Canal. An absolutely worthwhile section.

Not recommended in the evening hours due to the many insects. Otherwise, a beautiful view directly along the canal.

Beautiful old bridge over the tracks. Crossing from the Projensdorfer Gehölz to the Tannenberg animal enclosure.

There are currently four nature reserves within the Westensee Nature Park: Ahrensee & northeast Westensee. Methorstteich & Rümland-Teich. Bokelholmer fish ponds.
