The Hörnbrücke is scheduled to be opened to shipping traffic around twelve times a day for a quarter of an hour each time and additionally if necessary.
The delicate bridge is considered a tourist attraction in Kiel because of its unusual construction and its exposed location.
The Hörnbrücke is also the starting or ending point of a tourist holiday route opened in May 2004, the German Ferry Route from Bremervörde to the Kiel Fjord.
Because of the technical problems that were initially common, the Hörn Bridge was often derisively called the “Nothing Works Bridge”. However, these deficiencies have been eliminated and it now “works” without any problems, only for the above-mentioned. It must be temporarily shut down for maintenance work. The push bridge is then used as an alternative so that the connection from the west to the east bank is ensured at all times.

Kiel's beautiful promenade with a wonderful view of the Kiel Fjord has been hidden behind construction fences for years because the sheet pile walls are dilapidated. Construction work is now underway on Kiel's best side. But it remains uncertain when we will be able to enjoy a magical view of both the water and the Kiellinie again 😔... Patience, patience and more patience is required here 😏...
