Here you feel as if you have been transported back to the Middle Ages. The small half-timbered houses in the market alley, the fountain next to the oak tree, the St. Mathias Church in which the counts of Salm-Reifferscheid were buried until the 17th century. The forgotten burial place was only rediscovered in the 19th century.

<< Reifferscheid >> "Between the Eifel and the Ardennes lies the picturesque castle town of Reifferscheid, first mentioned in 1106. The current complex of castle ruins, outer bailey and fortified castle settlement reflects the transformation of this former seat of power. The old houses and alleys in Hellenthal-Reifferscheid take you back to the Middle Ages. The Catholic parish of St. Matthias regularly offers guided tours of the castle ring and the church on Sundays. The counts of Salm-Reifferscheid were buried in St. Matthias in the 17th century. The burial place was forgotten and was only rediscovered in the 19th century.
