Heimbach, with 4,500 inhabitants the second smallest town in North Rhine-Westphalia, is located in the Rureifel in the Eifel National Park. There is a lot to discover around the town of Heimbach. In 1959, Heimbach received city rights due to its historical past. Through the connection to the railway network and the construction of the Urfttalsperre in 1903 and 1904, Heimbach gradually became a center of tourism in the North Eifel.

The complex, which was built during the time of the so-called "Third Reich" and is known as "Ordensburg Vogelsang", was intended to serve as a training ground for the next generation of leaders of the National Socialist unjust regime. Today it stands in the middle of the Eifel National Park and part of the huge building complex now houses the National Park Information Center with a large exhibition on flora and fauna. The gate system seen here already gives an impression of the architectural structure of this "Ordensburg", which was planned and realized during the Nazi era.
