Super beautiful ridge path that always offers a view of the Werra.

The picturesque village of Lindewerra lies directly on the Werra River and is known for its beautiful half-timbered houses. Until 1989, it was literally on the edge of the world: the Inner German border ran right through the village. Today, Lindewerra is an idyllic place to take a break, admire the old bridge, and enjoy the peace and quiet and nature surrounding the river.

The Theodor Storm Trail (approx. 2.5 km from Lindewerra to the Teufelskanzel) was awarded in honor of the writer Theodor Storm, who hiked this route with family and friends in May 1857. The narrow mountain climb led up a rugged gorge to a rocky plateau with "the most smiling landscape" in the distance, under the sun – as he recalled with enthusiasm in his novella, "Eine Malerarbeit" (1867). Today, this route is part of the romantic, expansive Green Belt landscape; the path offers a magical blend of nature, literature, and panorama – a moment to literally leave the stressful city life behind and dream for a moment above the Werraslinger.

A magnificent view with several seating areas to linger and enjoy. A border tower used to stand here, inaccessible to hikers for decades. It's all the more rewarding that everyone can enjoy this view today. Tip: You can follow the patrol path without returning to the circular trail, where the two meet again.

The pond itself is not really beautiful and not a highlight, but touring stamp hunters can get a stamp here.

Lindewerra actually only became known beyond the town limits in 1830, when the cane-making trade began to take hold. There were 30 cane-making workshops here in 1920. Today, only one of them remains.

Theodor Storm walked this path, which was still unforested at the time. An information sign at the inn quotes from his travelogue. It's a very beautiful trail, but you should wear hiking boots. The upper section is rocky and steep, and partly covered in leaves. Furthermore, the walk is only 2 km all the way down to the Werra River. That's a test of fitness.
