Until 1989, it was literally on the edge of the world: the Inner German border ran right through the village. Today, Lindewerra is an idyllic place to take a break, admire the old bridge, and enjoy the peace and quiet and nature surrounding the river.

A good place to rest right next to the bike path in the shade under a linden tree. The square is called "Place of Encounter" because the border fence ran along this site during the division of Germany. A linden tree was planted here in remembrance on November 18, 1990.

Lindewerra actually only became known beyond the town limits in 1830, when the cane-making trade began to take hold. There were 30 cane-making workshops here in 1920. Today, only one of them remains.
