Here, the cycle path crosses the watershed between the Leine and Unstrut rivers. To the north, the water flows via the Leine, Aller, and Weser rivers into the North Sea. There, it also meets the water that flows southward via the Unstrut, Saale, and Elbe into the North Sea.

A worthwhile stamping point, very well maintained.

In the summer of 1850, a devastating cholera epidemic ravaged Geisleden, killing 35 residents in seven weeks. The residents then vowed to renew a Way of the Cross in the southern part of the fields, where the farmer Baltassar Kunze had already erected a seven-station Way of the Cross between 1750 and 1754 to commemorate the seven falls of Jesus. The substantial donations made it possible to expand it to a 14-station Way of the Cross and also to build a pilgrimage chapel. It commemorates the flood of the century on May 26, 1852, which had devastated the village two years after the cholera epidemic. A vow procession was to lead to the chapel on that day. A two-row avenue of maple trees was planted to protect the pilgrims to the chapel. A beautiful little chapel.

A beautiful little chapel that's easy to reach on foot, by bike, and even by car. We were here on a Sunday, and a service had been held shortly before. There's also a stamp box here 😉
