A hike along the Este dike is highly recommended: a beautiful circular walk. Spring or autumn are best. In the height of summer, there's no shade. You'll be treated to various views of the surrounding nature, the Este River, and the thatched-roof houses. There are plenty of benches for taking a short break. The lock house is also very interesting and worth a visit 👍🏼.

This section of the Este hiking trail near Bötersheim is incredibly beautiful. A hike is highly recommended, and a bike ride is also possible and recommended.

The periscope is actually still there and regularly attracts everyone who passes by. Nice place for a short rest.

The 4th stage of the "Wilde 13" hiking trail also runs along here. The "Wilde 13" is not signposted or marked, but can only be hiked using a GPX file at the following link: www.dav-hamburg.de/dav/Wilde13 (as of June 2024).
