聖マティアスは、イエスの弟子たちの最も近い円周にいた12人の使徒の一人ですが、他の使徒たちとは異なり、イエス自身によってこの職に任命されたわけではありませんでした。ユダ・イスカリオテによるイエスの引き渡し、そしてそれに続くイエス・キリストの十字架刑と復活の後、残った11人の使徒たちは聖霊を求めて祈り、新しい12人目の使徒を選びました。くじはマティアスに当たりました。これは新約聖書の「使徒言行録」に記されている通りです（使徒言行録1章15-26節）。彼の記念日は5月14日ですが、ドイツ語圏では2月24日です。彼はトリーアの聖マティアス・ベネディクト会修道院に埋葬されており、アルプスの北側にある唯一の使徒の墓であり、聖マティアス兄弟団（SMB）の多くが定期的にそこへ巡礼しています。

A visit is always worthwhile.

The Lühe landing stage is always worth a visit; it's beautiful here, with ever-changing scenery and large ships to see. Ample parking is available, as well as numerous restaurants offering a variety of delicious options. There are plenty of seating areas and a children's playground, as well as parking for camper vans and motorcycles. Due to the risk of storm surges or flooding, the stalls at the Lühe landing stage are removed in late autumn. When flood warnings are issued, the floodgate is also closed, as was the case today following yesterday's weather warning.

A winter hike along the Lühe dike and landing stage is highly recommended and interesting 👍🏻. Especially when it's below freezing 🌡️, it's fascinating to admire the ice floes on the banks of the Elbe.

The Krautsand lighthouse today consists of a distinctive red and white steel lattice upper light (1907) and a modern, fiberglass lower light (1978), which together form a leading line to guide ships safely through the Elbe River. This line is characterized by a synchronized flashing pattern of 8 seconds, designed to facilitate navigation. The old lower light tower was demolished in 1978; the new lower light is a slender fiberglass structure. Krautsand Upper Light (The Visible Landmark): Year Built: 1907. A very beautiful mill in Jork. A short detour from the main road, then turn left and you've arrived. Unfortunately, the café is closed and no longer in operation. A real shame since October 30, 2023. Nevertheless, the mill is still worth seeing.

A fantastic lighthouse is located on Krautsand. Just over the dike and you're already at the Elbe River and the beautiful Krautsand beach. There's also a dog beach and a lifeguard on duty during the summer months. A small children's playground and a bistro are also available. A large parking lot, toilet facilities, and an open-air shower are provided.
