The "new" King's Fir is a silver fir, officially designated as the successor to the original King's Fir in 2006. It is about 80 years younger than its predecessor. The original King's Fir, a symbol of the municipality of Wingst and even part of its coat of arms, was planted in 1777 and fell victim to a storm in 1949. The new King's Fir is located about 600 meters south of the site of the original tree. With a height of around 38 meters and a trunk circumference of 3.9 meters, it is an impressive sight.

The ⛪️ church tower in the center of town cannot be overlooked. The baroque church of St. Petri was built from bricks in 1746/1747 by the Hamburg master builder Johann Leonhard Prey. Prey was the co-builder of Hamburg's main church, St. Michaelis, the Hamburger Michel. The size of the church still shows the prosperity of the Osten residents at that time. The interior from the time of construction has been preserved unchanged; it is unmistakably similar to that of the Hamburger Michel.

Hemmoor offers a variety of sights and activities that appeal to both culture and nature lovers. The chalk lake in Hemmoor is a paradise for divers. With a depth of up to 60 meters and excellent visibility, it offers a fascinating underwater world. Non-divers can also enjoy the surroundings and take a dive in a submarine. The oldest transporter bridge in Germany, which connects Osten and Hemmoor, is a technical masterpiece from 1909 and a unique experience. The associated museum "De FährStuv" provides information about the history of the ferry. The German Cement Museum Hemmoor tells the story of the Hemmoor cement works, which was once the largest industrial company in the region. Here you can learn all about the industrial past and the cement adventure trail. In the Hemmoor Earth and Prehistoric Museum, the Hemmoorium, you can gain insights into the prehistory of the region through interesting exhibitions and special tours for groups and children. There are numerous opportunities for nature observation and hiking around the Oste and the Hemmoor moor meadows. The area is ideal for canoeing and cycling on the Osterradweg. Hemmoor also offers many leisure activities such as the OsteWelle swimming pool and the Geestsee for swimming. There are also numerous playgrounds and leisure parks in the area that are particularly attractive for families.

The Oste Bridge between Hemmoor and Osten is an impressive transporter bridge, considered to be one of the last eight of its kind in the world. This engineering feat from 1909 was originally called the "eighth wonder of the world" and is now a major landmark in the region. The transporter bridge crosses the Oste and connects the town of Hemmoor with the municipality of Osten. The transporter bridge was in operation until 1974 and was then replaced by a fixed bridge on the B 495. Today the transporter bridge is mainly used for tourist trips and is a popular excursion destination. It is operated by a non-profit association that takes care of the preservation of this unique monument. The ferry is also part of the German Ferry Route, which connects various historic ferries and bridges along the Elbe.

On June 17th, 2024, we asked a woman and her dog for directions. We wanted to know if you could cross the bridge on the Wischhafener Süderelbe by bike. But she didn't know her way around. She was probably on vacation in Krautsand. As we continued our journey, a couple came towards us on their bikes and told us that the bridge was closed. We then rode back with them. The woman with the dog on a leash was still standing on the path and we rode past her. Last of all, my wife. The dog snapped and bit my right calf. A relatively small wound became infected and we drove to the hospital in Flensburg on June 20th, 2024, where we were treated. We were advised not to continue our journey by bike. We therefore had to end our cycling trip. Perhaps someone can provide information about the dog owner or has met her. Middle-aged woman, 45 to 50 years old, long dark hair. Dog shoulder height approx. 50 cm, long, mottled black, brown, beige hair.
