A German company revived the tradition of mining on the island. Between 1903 and 1914, Spiedel had 14 mines in operation with zinc, lead and silver. With the outbreak of the First World War, the dismantling was stopped, and after Greece had joined the Entente in 1916 in the war, dismantled the plant facilities.
From 1953 to 1964, Krupp KG had the mining concession for some mines.
