Herrenbrücke (Weschnitz Bridge) – Lorsch 🚴♂️The Herrenbrücke serves as a crossing to Weschnitz Island. It is located southeast of Lorsch in the Bergstraße district of Hesse, bordered by a dam of the flood retention basin, the two canals of the New and Old Weschnitz Rivers, along which the paved cycle path runs towards Lorsch and Hüttenfeld. The wooden observation tower near the Herrenbrücke in the nature reserve is the "Hans Ludwig Tower." With this, the town of Lorsch commemorates the deceased 86-year-old conservationist Hans Ludwig. The nature reserve covers an area of 200 hectares. From an ecological perspective, it is the remnants of a once vast meadow area that stretched between Lorsch, Heppenheim, Weinheim, and Viernheim. 🚴♂️- The Weschnitz is a 58.9-kilometer-long, right-hand tributary of the Rhine in southern Hesse and northern Baden-Württemberg. It rises in the Odenwald, in the district of Hammelbach/Grasellenbach. The name "Weschnitz" is derived from Visucius, the name of a Celtic river god.
