It is interesting how the water creates a new line into the river bed after each high level
September 13, 2020
The Tagliamento in Friuli, northern Italy, is the most important of the last wild rivers in the Alps.It is the last Alpine river that still has the characteristics that originally characterized the rivers in the Alps: an extensive gravel bed with branched channels, a powerful alluvial groundwater body, masses of dead wood and island formations in all stages of development. The shape of the riverbed changes with every high tide; Islands, ponds and free gravel areas are newly created. A complex mosaic of habitats emerges, which makes possible the great diversity of aquatic, amphibious and terrestrial organisms that characterize natural rivers.
