In the village Ommel Above Marstal you come to the east in the idyllic village Ommel with thatched houses, small paths and still genuine village atmosphere. On both sides of the village one finds a real peculiarity, because here are its two ports named Strandby and Kleven. In the past, there were great winters in the two harbors, today there are only recreational captains and some fishermen who make their way here. Strandby has a real sandy beach and the water is slowly getting deeper. Therefore families like to come here with children to spend their free time at the water. There is also seating with tables, so also ideal for a small rest by bike or car. In the early or late season you are almost all alone, but in the season it can be quite full. The larger of the two ports is Kleven which still offers everything for fishermen and sailors today. Around the water you will find large, wooden markings that today mark the fairway. In former times, the large sailors were moored here for the winter, because the location was ideal to be protected against ice and storm. In addition, large cairns had been installed here to serve as a kind of icebreaker. Kleven had therefore at that time a very great importance for shipping, e.g. In the winter of 1845 alone there were 32 barges. Therefore, a dock was urgently needed to load and unload cargo, in 1860 this was then already completed. Until 1961, the harbor was still regularly used, today you will find here only fishermen and smaller ships private skipper. If you want to stay overnight in Kleven you will find a simple campsite with toilet, grill, medical supply and water connections for the skipper.
