At the present time, the path leads past the bridge, as there is no river here. But the ancient Romans will probably have their reasons. The Weschnitz but also the Neckar have changed their course in the Ried again and again.

It's always nice to rest here... especially in the shade of the 300+ year old Roman oak! This probably consisted of 3 oak trees that had grown together, one of which fell victim to a storm in the record summer of 2018. In 2019, chainsaw artist Gert Hildebrandt processed the broken trunk into a "Grüffelo" sculpture. This still stands at the foot of the Windeck castle ruins!
