Sveti Jovan Bigorski Monastery is an Orthodox monastery founded in 1020 by Ivan I Debranin in the western part of the Republic of North Macedonia. The Ottomans destroyed the monastery in the 16th century, but it was restored in 1743 by the monk Ilarion, who also built a number of cells for monks. Between 1812 and 1825 the plant was further expanded. Most of the old monastery complex was destroyed by fire in 2009 while the newer sections of the complex and the church were saved. The reconstruction of the old sections began in May 2010 with the aim of restoring the buildings in their original style.
The monastery has a large collection of sacred relics including John the Baptist, Clement of Ohrid, Lazarus of Bethany, St. Stephen, St. Nicholas, St. Barbara, Paraskevi of Rome, Tryphon, and part of the Holy Cross.
Another valuable monastery treasure is an icon of 1020 with supposedly miraculous healing power.
