The interesting nature reserve 'Næbbet' extends from the low beach hill on the north coast to the archipelago 300 meters into the sea. For biologists, this is one of the most significant and interesting areas of birdrø for birdwatchers and botanists, and it has a great recreational value. The area between the lighthouse of Skjoldnæs and Næbbet is also a hotspot for anglers due to the deep water and strong current.

The lighthouse was built in 1881 as a 22 meter high, round building from Bornholm granite. 57 steps lead to the guardroom. The lantern is the central part of the lighthouse. It is very well preserved and fully preserved when it was originally built. From the gallery on the platform you have a great view. On clear days you can see the Baltic Sea, the Little Belt and the Southern Funen archipelago. In the south, the German mainland is barely visible. To the west lies the island of Als and to the north you see the islands Lyø, Bjørnø and Avernakø with Faborg and the Svanninge mountains in the background.

The lighthouse on Ærø has a special reason to become one of the most impressive lighthouses in Denmark. After the defeat against the Prussians in 1864 and the loss of Schleswig Ærø was managed by the county Svendborg. It was therefore decided to build an impressive lighthouse, which could be seen as a salute to our lost friends and families as far as Kiel. The access to the lighthouse is possible from sunrise to sunset and at a very low entrance fee. Around the lighthouse one of the most beautiful coastal golf courses in Europe was built.

After climbing the tower, a short hike along the stony beach to Næbbet, a beautiful bird sanctuary, is ideal.
