The castle of Polop stands on a hill from which it dominates the town of the same name, province of Alicante, in the area known as the Old Cemetery. It can be accessed by a path that leaves the town.
Of Islamic origin, Polop was conquered by the troops of Jaime I, and was the scene of several bloody actions during the Al-Azraq revolts. In 1271 the monarch ceded the town to the knight Beltrán de Belpuig.
During the Germanías, a new Moorish rebellion had its center in the Castle of Polop, where the rebels became strong until they were defeated by deceit and practically massacred.
