The Madonna, which originally comes from the Würzburg area, was formerly owned by the Freilassing clairvoyant and well builder Alois Irlmaier (1894-1959). He gave it to the Berchtesgaden dentist Dr. Eugen Köberle (1913-1979), who, among other things, was interested in the healing power of water and headed the local Kneipp Association.

A few years later, a friend of Köberle's had the 800 kg Irlmaier Madonna brought there with the help of a cable car in a technically complicated feat of strength. Since then, many people have undertaken the one-hour walk to the "Irlmaier Madonna" and tapped the water, which is constantly eight degrees cool. It is said to be particularly helpful for cardiovascular problems and depression. In any case, Hagen Böhnisch, the man who erected the Madonna, was cured of his heart disease by working at the spring.

The Madonna rises on a spring covered with natural stones. The left blessing figure is somewhat protected from the weather by a small round arch with a roof.
