The small and rocky Thorne Island was fortified in the 1850s amid growing concerns about the strength of the French Navy. The fort was converted into a hotel in 1947 and was later abandoned. It has recently been converted into a party space. There is no access to the fort, but you do get a great view of the island and the fort from this stretch of coastline.
