The "Wittelsbach National Monument" has stood above the northern outlet of the Halsgraben since 1834. The high, neo-Gothic pinnacle turret goes back to a design by Joseph Daniel Ohlmüller. The building was erected as a separate state monument for the Bavarian nation and in this context was intended to honor the role of the House of Wittelsbach, which had been the rulers of Bavaria for centuries. The dedication inscription reads "To his thousand-year-old regent tribe the faithful Bavaria."
