Expanded and modified several times over the course of history, the Sanctuary of Monte Senario was built in 1234 at the behest of the seven Florentine nobles who founded the order of the Servants of Mary. In the convent distillery the friars still produce excellent liqueurs, including Gemma d'Abeto, whose recipe, which involves the use of silver fir extracts, dates back to 1865.

Monte Senario is a Servite monastery in the comune of Vaglia, near Florence in Tuscany, in central Italy. It stands on the mountain of the same name, on the watershed between the Valdarno to the south and the Mugello to the north. It was established in 1245 by the seven founding members of the Servite order and was the first Servite monastery.

The Sanctuary of Monte Senario is a religious complex located on the slopes of Monte Senario, a mountain in the Tuscan region of Italy. It is situated on the Via degli Dei, a popular hiking trail that connects the city of Florence to the mountain.

The Sanctuary is a pilgrimage site for many Catholics, and it is dedicated to the seven holy founders of the Servite order.

The complex includes a church, a monastery, and a number of other buildings, all of which are nestled in the picturesque Tuscan countryside. The church, which dates back to the 13th century, is decorated with frescoes and other artwork.

The monastery, which was built in the 16th century, is home to a community of Servite monks. Visitors can also explore the surrounding area, which is known for its beautiful views and rich wildlife.
