      One of the main attractions of Hammamet is the Spanish Ribat Fortress. It is located on the coast and borders the area of the medina. It was built in the 12th century (according to other sources in the 10th century). Over the years it had been exposed to many aggressive attacks by Maltese knights and pirates.

      It was last restored from 1977 to 1979.

      The fortress is in the shape of a square with walls that are up to 13m high. Inside there is a small museum and the mausoleum of the monk-warrior Sidi Буали (Sidi Bouali). Old cannons are on display outside. From the castle wall you have a breathtaking view of the beach, the bay and the city.
