Mythical pass of the Pyrenees, impossible to come and not climb it. But prepare your most beautiful smile because photographers are present to immortalize everything ;)

As a monument to the Tour de France of one of the most famous Pyrenees passes, the Tourmalet is now one of THE destinations for cyclists. And whether by road bike or touring bike, the climb from Sainte-Marie-de-Campan is definitely spectacular. Both in terms of the difference in altitude of 1435 m and because of the awe-inspiring mountains, into which you struggle.
The road is well developed on the east side, lushly wide up to La Mongie, then a little narrower, but still generously lane-lined. Also, the climb is not as "epic" as the hero stories of the TdF make it appear - as always, it depends on the speed. Usually with only 10%, maximum up to 12% with a standard touring bike translation are not an insurmountable challenge.
The west ramp is significantly narrower, especially in the upper third, and requires attention when descending.

The Col du Tourmalet... a pass that was a real challenge for me! It climbs continuously for 20 km without any real respite... With the end getting a bit tougher, especially mentally!
