    Surprise Lake is just 20 miles east of Amphitheater Lake at 9,570 ft. Like its neighbor Surprise Lake is a beautiful, remote-feeling alpine lake that is a challenging spot to get to. Ringed by dramatic rocky peaks, this stunning lake is a great place to take photographs, eat a snack and rest before either heading to Amphitheater Lake or back down into the valley.
