The Raßnitzer lake originated from a residual hole of the open pit mine. Where once brown coal was mined, today is a beautiful lake, on the banks of which nature is spreading more and more. Since this year, swimming at the lake is now also allowed. Buoys and signage will probably be installed in winter for the 2019 swimming season.

The Raßnitzer See is east of the Wallendorfer See, both lakes are between Merseburg and Leipzig. On the northern side you can reach it via Luppedamm and Elsterradweg. From there you can reach the lookout tower, where you have a view of large parts of the lake. At Raßnitz there is a natural beach where locals go swimming in summer.
On the southern side there are small romantic bays where swimming is also possible. If you are cycling around the Raßnitzer See, it is best to circle the Wallendorfer See. On the southern side of Lake Wallendorfer you have access to the village of Wallendorf, where you can enjoy delicious food and drinks at the wine cellar or cyclist meeting.
