Mühlbach in Uelzener Heide Nature Reserve

On the northern edge of the Haarstrang low mountain range, it bubbles up considerably: Uelzen and Mühlhausen are also called “Quellendörfer” for good reason. The Mühlenbach is the lifeline of this diverse nature reserve. Particularly small-scale, it combines many locations on less than 200 hectares: wet soil, hedges, deciduous forest, springs, ponds or fallow land. Such biotopes are true life rafts for rare and endangered species. Almost 230 plant species find a habitat here, including orchids such as the orchid. And if it sounds from the reeds as if a particularly large cricket is chirping, it could also be a rare bird: the reed warbler.

As in any nature reserve, it is particularly important here to leave nothing behind, keep dogs on a leash and stay on the trails. In this way, we protect important sanctuaries for rare plants or animals that we may not even recognize as such.

The nature reserve is located on the eastern edge of Unna. To the north it extends to the city limits of Kamen. The Hamm-Unna railway line runs through the middle of the area from north to south.
