The Danube bridge Schalding is with 1020 m the longest bridge of the Federal Highway 3 and the longest German Danube bridge.
The building spans the Danube valley west of Passau in the districts Schalding left and right of the Danube between the junctions Passau-Nord and Passau-Mitte with eight fields. In addition to the Danube, the Regensburg-Passau railway line, the Bundesstraße 8 and the Schaldinger Straße as well as the Staatsstraße 2125 and the Minihofstraße on the left bank of the Danube are bridged on the right bank of the Danube. The highway route is curved in the course of the bridge in plan. The beam bridge was built with a common superstructure for both directional tracks between the years 1969 and 1973.
